Shawl Weaving Artisan - Winding and Warping

Winding of pirn from cone

Objectives : At the end of this exercise you shall be able to
• prepare a pirn from cone bobbin for weaving process.

Requirements
Tools/equipment’s/Instruments Materials

• Pirn winding machine - 1 No. • Cone bobbin - 1 No.
• Empty Pirn - as reqd.

PROCEDURE

TASK 1 : Prepare pirn from cone

1 Take an empty pirn and place it in the spindle of the
pirn winding machine. Fig 3
2 Place the cone bobbin near to the pirn winding
machine. (Fig 1)

3 Take the end of the thread from cone bobbin and
hold it against the pirn with your finger. (Fig 2)

8 Remove the pirn from the spindle of pirn winding
machine. (Fig 6)

4 Start the pirn winding machine and keep the speed
slow.
5 With the help of one hand guide the yarn to the pirn.
(Fig 3 & 4)
6 Start the winding process from base of the pirn and
slowly move to the tip of the pirn. (Fig 5)
7 After completing the winding process switch off the
pirn winding machine.
9 Now insert the other empty pirn and start the process
